The Arsenal reserves, led by 17-year old Jack Wilshere defeated Liverpool 4-1 in the first leg of the Youth FA Cup Finals. The game was held at Emirates Stadium on May 22. The game was played in front of a large crowd, about 33,000 strong, and left Arsene Wenger smiling at the end. If there is any bright spot in this season for him it has been the play of his youth squad this campaign.

Arsenal Goals:

20 min: Gilles Sunu (assisted by Henri Lansbury)

-The goal was a result of Wilshere's prefect vision. He played a nice through ball to Lansbury who played it one touch right into the path of Sunu. The keeper had no chance.

34 min: Jack Wilshere (pen)

-Not perfect placement, but much better than the last few he scored. He struck it low into the bottom right corner with loads of pace. A deserved goal for the man who pulls all the strings in the midfield.

57 min: Sanchez Watt (assisted by Jack Wilshere)

-A sublime through ball split two defenders and went right into the path of Watt. Watt turned coolly and chipped the keeper with ease. It was a goal that was oozing with confidence and maturity.

64 min: Jay Emmanuel-Thomas (assisted by Henri Lansbury)

-Off a corner Thomas flicked it on from the near post and it floated in the back post's side netting. The keeper could do nothing but watch the inch perfect placement of the header.

Liverpool Goals:

36 min: Alex Kacaniklic (unassisted)

-Kacaniklic's first shot was blocked and deflect right back into this path. He took it first time off the bounce and watched it soar in the right upper corner of the goal. Brilliant volley, but it was only a result of terrible defending by Arsenal.

The 2nd leg will be play at Anfield on May 26. Since Arsenal have a 4-1 lead, they could lose that game 2-0, and still walk away with the trophey. This has been a truly impressive campaign for Steve Bould’s side.
